New Releases: Coolit v.8, CoolitPCB v.4

Both Coolit and CoolitPCB have had upgrades this year. The software now includes a powerful new utility for building detailed models of IC packages, an extensive library of pre-built packages, as well as a utility to convert detailed package models to compact models. Zonal grids have been further improved both for efficiency and range of applications and many other features have been added or improved to make it even more user-friendly and effective to use.

The power and versatility of CoolitPCB v4 has been recognized by the
Desktop Engineering Magazine awarding it the Editors Pick of the Week in November 2008. Priced at only $3,200 for an annual license, CoolitPCB costs a fraction of would-be competitors, without compromising power, features or accuracy. And it is fully integrated with Coolit, so board designs can be readily incorporated into complex system analysis.

Animation of transient flow solutions in CoolPlot

When you load your transient solution file into CoolPlot, by default it will have a small dialog Transient Options open. If you don’t see the dialog, click View|Transient Options. The dialog permits you to display individual time frames, do animation, and export animations to AVI files. An important thing to remember is that transient solution files are n-times larger than corresponding steady state files, where n is the number of time frames saved to the file.

Faster hardware

Faster computer is a dream of CFD engineers who always compute at the limit of their hardware capacity. When upgrading your current computer or buying a new one it is important to understand that the speed of computing depends as much on the processor speed as on the data transfer rate between the CPU and RAM. This data transfer rate is controlled by the front bus and RAM. Thus in our experiments on a computer with a 400 MHz front bus upgrading RAM from PC2100 (266 MHz) to PC3200 (400 MHz) sped up larger problems about 35%. Note, that all memory must be replaced and that there is no benefit in RAM faster than your front bus.

New Features

IC Packages constructor and library

IC Package constructor includes several resistor types as well as constructors for detailed models of BGA, DIP and QFP packages. The IC Packages library includes over 200 pre-built detailed models of various packages. The library and constructor packages can be used as is or converted to compact models.  You can add new packages to the library or modify the provided packages.
